Sustaining Engineering Manager

Company designs and develops easy-to-use, highly integrated consumer products and has most recently launched a revolutionary portable reader that wirelessly downloads books, blogs, magazines and newspapers to a crisp, high-resolution electronic paper display. Company is growing and is looking for a Sustaining Engineering Manager to join the hardware team. The hardware team is responsible for platform development, product execution and the sustaining of products once in volume manufacturing. With multiple products in production, the sustaining engineering requirement is growing rapidly and has become a critical function for the business. The sustaining team is currently 4 engineer. Company is looking for an experienced engineering manager to come on board and lead, build and grow this group into a world class sustaining machine.
Key functions for this group are as follows:
- Analyze field failure data to prioritize engineering focus
- Debug field returns to root-cause
- Validate and implement corrective actions
- Support ops team to improve test yields and UPH
- Qualify alternate parts for EOL or cost reduction
- Drive ODM to debug issues effectively
- Drive the ODM to execute hardware test plans during development
The Candidate:
Will have a background in hardware engineering (EE), with much
experience in high volume consumer electronics manufacturing and will
have spent time at manufacturing sites in Asia. The candidate will have
worked on portable, battery powered (ideally wireless devices), such as
iPods or cell-phones. He / She will also be an experienced manager,
having directly managed teams of at least 5 engineers, as well as lead
cross functional teams. The candidate will also have program management
skills and understand the product development cycle.
This person will excel at data analysis, debug & problem solving; will be
a great manager and lead to the team, will interface and communicate
well to external parties including ODM partners, internal groups and
executives.
Required Experience:
- At least 5 years experience as an Electronic Engineer
- Experience working on portable, battery powered, ideally wireless devices in the high volume consumer
electronics industry
- Time spent at manufacturing sites in Asia
- A proven manager: directly managed teams of at least 5 engineers
- Data analysis and debug skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent required. Masters’ Degree preferred.
Travel:
This position will require international travel.
